That was in early 1992.Rev Fr Kurian Aranjanil who had absorbed radical perceptions of education from the USA and returned to India in the early 1990s founded the Pastoral Sociological Institute (PSI) at Malur which aimed at rural empowerment through education and skill development. Soon, however, PSI evolved into a regular high school offering state syllabus education but through English as the medium. The MSFS Fathers then took over the management of the school, located on the Malur-Kolar Road at Nyachohalli, under the Madivala Gram Panchayat. The institution grew by leaps and bounds and boasts an impressive enrolment of over 1,850 students from surrounding village.
Today, SFS has become synonymous with success and stability. If there is a single lesson that life teaches us, it is that wishing doesn’t make it successful. The school, guided by a dedicated team of Fathers, nurtures communication, connection, community and culture. Its focuses on human-centric development and inclusive holistic growth. Governmental recognition for the school came in 1995 when Sr Judy (1992-1996) and Fr Kurian Aranjanil (1992-1996) served as the first principal and correspondent respectively.
The subsequent expansionist phase of the institution was hastened by a line-up of efficient educationalists like Sr Mary Joe (1996-99), Sr Molly (1999-2004), Fr George Puraidam, Manager (1996-2003), Fr Devasia Kalappura, Principal (2004-2009), Fr Erudaya Raj, Principal (2009-2013), and Fr Saju Jose (2013-2016) as his worthy successor.
Successive Principals like Fr Joseph Thoppil (2016-2020) and Fr Jojo K.J. ventured into novel academic initiatives and developmental strategies, further boosting the school’s image as a go-getter institution that would stop at nothing in its pursuit of academic excellence. Fr Thoppil added a new academic block to the school which helped install all latest infrastructure needed for a modern educational institution. As a consequence, more students keep vying for admission to the school, driving its present strength to an enviable 1,850 students.
Fr Joshy Thazhathukunnel who stayed as school manager from 2003 until 2016 was a firebrand visionary whose foresight and strategies took the school to unforeseen heights of achievements and fame. Other stalwart champions of education who laboured for the school included Fr Jojo K.J. (2013-2015), Fr Riju (2016-17), Fr Sebastian (2017-20), Fr Arokiasamy (2020-21), and Fr Joseph Kannadom (2021-23). Their effect on the school was transformative as they worked for rural development and empowerment through SFS School. The secret to their success lay in the affordable cost of education they provided to the people of Malur.
The current scenario, marked by the arrival of Fr Anish Abraham as Principal, Fr Salvadore Fernandez as Manager, and Fr Nelson as Administrator, upholds promises to keep and miles to go on and on. The trio has begun work to inject a fresh dose of positivity and professionalism into the educational landscape of Malur. It is a semi-urban landscape throbbing with fresh ideas for industrial growth and technological advancement. The people of Malur are imbued with the spirit of entrepreneurship and keep their eyes open for opportunities to make it big in life’s superhighway. They see education as a valuable tool in their search for the good life.
